Graph Paper Girls

I can’t remember if post this here so I’m doing it now.  I didn’t have my regular draw pad at the time, but this graph paper did the job just fine.  I don’t think there’s anything one this page that I fell in love with, but I do fancy the girl in the top middle with the flower in her hair. ^_^

I really like the one on the bottom-middle (the one who appears to be looking over her left shoulder)–something about her expression appeals to me.

Man, I can’t help but be jealous of your skills. To think that these are just sketches….

    Okay, a few questions:

    1) Why graph paper? Do you use if for pixel art or some-such?

    2) Why red ink/lead?

    3) Do you have any quick (or not-so… whatever your willing to provided) tips for how to get started drawing? I’m looking for a new hobby, and figure that I may as well try doing what I enjoy watching. I know that you are busy too, so any small amount of advice would be appreciated.

      Ooooo… I love answering questions!

      1. – Graph paper because it was the only paper handy at the time, but it does come in handy at work sometimes for game design stuffs.
      2. – Red lead is because if you use black, you will have a tenancy to not fix mistakes. Your mind will see the black/dark line as a more finished line. If you use red (or any other colour really) you’ll understand that it isn’t a finished line so you’ll be more likely to make corrections. It’s a little mind game really we were taught in class.
      3. – Use reference! We were always taught in class to use reference because how can you draw something if you don’t know what it looks like. Pose Space is a great place for nude models if you’re looking for that sort of thing. Also, study other artists and how they pose things, the lighting or colour they use. I still do that and I’m still learning things. Most of all… have fun! ^_^
