Nervous To Fly
As I mentioned before, I’ll be at Disney on my birthday. Which means we have to fly there. Well, not really I suppose. We could drive, but that’s just extra vacation days I’d be wasting. But regardless, we will be flying. Knowing that makes me kind of nervous. I’m not petrified or crippled with fear, I’m just a bit uneasy about it. I’ve flown before. I flew to California for E3 a few years ago, and we flew to Disney the last time too. I know people do it all the time, but I still don’t care for it. I’m afraid that the plane is totally going to fall out of the sky. If I where in a car accident, it would be quicker, but in a plane I’d have to sit there and wait for the impact… and my death. I won’t let it get to me though. I won’t let me fears being me down in any way. Besides, I’m sure everything will be fine… I hope.
Anything make you nervous?

Surely you can’t be serious?

Oh, I totally am. Turbulence makes me white knuckle the seat I’m in. It can be scary stuff. o_O

No, you’re supposed to say “Of course I’m serious. And don’t call me Shirley!” ;-D

Well, you can take heart that you are statistically far, far less likely to die in a plane crash than an automobile crash, and that even if your plane does explode and you are flung from it without a parachute, you can, in fact, still survive: http://www.badassoftheweek.com/index.cgi?id=841089820803

The local bus drivers. They are mostly students who need some part time work and have no prior experiences. Some of them are pretty good, but most are a wreck waiting to happen. I’m not sure I can count the times that we almost run over a pedestrian or rear-ended another vehicle. I’m actually a little shocked that it hasn’t happened on one of my rides.
About the plane thing though. Most of the people that I know, myself included, get (at least) a little nervous about flying. I’ve never been able to pinpoint exactly why (lack of control of the situation, finality of a crash, etc…) and recognize the statistically negligible chance of a crash, but I still can’t shake that twinge of fear. One thing I’ve found that helps is to keep in mind the experience of the flight. The Earth is beautiful from above. Hopefully you have a clear flight.

Going through a job interview makes me nervous. I’ve had to do several of these recently and I hate them. It always feels like I’m trying to justify my existence and not sound like I’m begging for a job.
