Quiter

What things have you tried to take on or learn but failed.  Well… maybe not failed.  That’s kind of harsh.  Quit!  Yeah, that’s it.  Name some of the things that you quit even though you had the best of intentions to finish.

Learning Japanese – Several years ago I signed up for online lessons speak and write Japanese.  I really wanted to make this happen because I wanted to have an easier time playing import games.  I also wanted to understand naughty Japanese manga.  Sadly this didn’t happen.  I found it hard to put aside the time to learn properly so I eventually stopped it all together.

Working Out – I used to work out all the time.  I had a schedule and everything and I quite enjoyed it.  But other things started to take priority and it just kept getting pushed to the side.  This is something I really want to get back in to.

Learning 3D – I learned basic 3D a long time ago.  I keep sort of relearning it ever now and again.  My problem is that I don’t do anything to keep it up.  Plus I’m known for my 2D at work so it makes no sense to give the 2D guy some 3D work.  I really should try to get back in to it and try to make something 3D.  Where to start is the question…

Flossing – This one sounds strange, but at the beginning of this year I decided to start flossing properly.  By the summer I had stopped all together.  It’s something I should be doing, it doesn’t take much time, but at the end of my day I’m usually so tired that I don’t care.  I really should though.  I think I’ll start this up again tonight.

What are some of the things you’ve stopped or walked away from for any number of reasons?

    1) Playing the guitar. For many years, I played for at least an hour a day, but I don’t have that kind of time now and rarely pick it up. I even lost my calluses, which is a bummer.

    2) Facebook. I found most of what was posted by my ‘friends’ to be totally inane, and didn’t care all that much for posting things on my page (I put very little of myself online). I still have a page, but I haven’t done anything with it in over a year probably. Occasionally get notices via email, but usually ignore them. Should just delete my account.

    3) Keeping a journal. I tried to keep a journal for a while, still go back to it once in a while, but I find it hard to put down things about myself or what has happened to me. Not sure why.

    4) Meditating. Used to do this to help my focus, but stopped for some reason. Doesn’t take all that much time, but finding 15 minutes or so of uninterrupted quiet seems harder than it used to be.

There are other things that I’ve stopped doing (learning Japanese and working out among them), but wouldn’t consider them quitting. Since returning to school, I’ve lost a lot of free-time with which to do these types of things. Being married only compounds the issue (in a good way), and I’m sure that having kids is even more of a time-drain (though, not necessarily a bad one). I hope one day to be able to return to doing many of these things. Though, probably not facebook.

I used to build a lot of model kits when I was younger, but I’ve lost interest in them over the years. I make one maybe once in a while, if its something interesting.

You don’t need to learn all of Japanese language, just remember what you know is enough.
