Quotes

Do you have quotes in your head that have helped pave the way to be who you are?  How many do you have and who put them there?  I have a few that I remember my Dad telling me when I was little.  I couldn’t have been more then 9 or 10 but I distinctly remember him telling me “what ever you decide to do in life, make sure that you enjoy it.  There’s nothing worse then getting up to go to a job that you hate“.  That has always been in the back of my head and has helped me push myself towards a career that I’m passionate about.

Another one that my Dad put in my head was “don’t let people walk all over you“.  I’ve had a harder time with this one as I don’t like confrontation and so will sometimes let others win to avoid arguments.  I try, but I’m not always the alpha male that I’d like to be.  Some personal growth is still required in that area.

Finally, one of my animation teachers said “don”t draw for the money, draw because you love it“.  I’ve kept that one in my head too.  It’s fascinating how the things we read or hear can strike a cord with us.  It might not affect us for years, but when they do, things can all of a sudden make sense.

What are your quotes?

    Hello.

I used to live by the rule “Live and let live”
But after some time it started to backfire, poeple started to take advantage from that and i allways ended up in a mess.
So for the past few years im folowing “don’t let people walk all over you“ and its working good for me, shure it leads to arguments and other unplesent things but in the end, results are good.

What catched my atencion was yours teachers “don”t draw for the money, draw because you love it“ advice.
Im a amature 3DCG artist (artist might be to big word for me) and i really enjoy doing soft erotic work.
Few months ago i decided to accept commisions and to my suprise i got quite few requests.
I quickly regreted that decision becouse aditude of some clients allmost made me quit my hobby, hell i got so frusttrated i allmost deleted allmy database.
So i made rule for my self after that “don”t render for the money, render because you love it“
I even made rendered version of your tinkerbell drawing (hope you dont mind)
I tryed to mail you finished one but it seems you never recieved.

I allways enjoyed your blong and your work.
    Keep at it 🙂

    P.S
    Sory for bad english.

Hey there! ^_^ First off, thanks for stopping by! It’s always great to have new people add replies. Second, that’s too bad about you getting bad commissions. Sometimes they’re like that. I’ve had some really bad commissioners in the past too. You just have let them slide and remember not to take thing from them again. I’m glad you didn’t quit your erotic 3d renderings though. It would be a shame if some one pushed you to that.

I went to your site and checked out what you have. That Tinkerbell pic is pretty cool! How long did it take you to do that? I don’t know much 3D and would love to learn more some day so things like this I find very impressive. I checked my email and the junk folder and nothing like this ever came in. Strange… Anyway, keep up the naughty works. If it makes you happy, then do it. Don’t let others sour attitude stop you. ^_^

        Thanks.
Im realy glad you liked the picture.
Working on Tink render took me arround 5 days.
Tweeking her body and face shape
took 4 days, even after making the picuture i did some corrections 😛
Then there was some editing on texture that took me half of day, rest went faster becouse i
used ready props for the scene.
Posing and seting up lights took 3 hours and lastly arroun 1 hour of rendering itself.

I was thinking about commisioning you to draw one of my characters (when you annouced the 40$ one), but then i noticed i dont have eny spare cash so i gave up on the idea for now.

Btw is there eny other email i can use to contack you besides hotmail one?

Wow, sounds like it took you quite some time to get that all set up. I’m not sure if I’m that dedicated to do all that in 3D, so good on you. As for the email, nope… that’s the one I use for my porny stuff. Try again and I’ll let you know if it goes through.

I have too many quotes to list but some of my favorites are:

“Art is never finished, only abandoned” Leonardo Da Vinci

“Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.”
    Bill Watterson

“The only way to answer a fool is with silence.” Old Arab proverb.

    I grew up collecting quotes.
My father would often quote something my grandfather said:
“Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.”

But I think the quotes that had a impact on me are these:
“Play: Work that you enjoy doing for nothing.” ~ Evan Esar

“The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions.” ~ Alfred Lord Tennyson

“The fool doth think he is wise, but a wise man knows himself a fool.” ~ Shakespeare

“It is our responsibilities, not ourselves, that we should take seriously.” ~ Peter Ustinov

“Men are not against you; they are merely for themselves.” ~Gene Fowler

Maybe that’s why I’ve ended up coming up with some sayings of my own over the course of my life:
“Success isn’t happiness. Happiness is success.”

“It’s better to understand something you don’t like, than to criticize something you don’t understand.”

“Sometimes the best way to learn is the hard way.”

“If you can’t have what you want, want what you have.”

“You can’t replace something with nothing.”

    “Disappointment comes from expectations.”

“Lonliness is a form of disappointment.”

Those are great pieces of advice. The your father’s and drawing one (generalized to all jobs) are ones that I find particularly compelling, at the moment. Gotta say, though, I hope you don’t take the alpha-dog thing too far. Seems to me that those who claim themselves ‘alpha-dogs’ are the ones that tend to do the walking-over of others.

I can only think of three quotes that have had an impact on my life. The first was eye-opening, the second was somewhat life-altering, and the third just seems like a truism that most people should consider:

-“[my actual name], you’re stupid!” (Said to me as an adolescent by a very respected friend, because, at the time, I used my intelligence to get out of having to do work, instead of using it to better the work or my situation. Its impact is obvious, considering I can still remember the scene and his statement fairly well after 2X years)

-“The unexamined life is not worth living for a human.” (Attributed to Socrates, written by Plato. From the Apology. This one actually helped me change my life.)

-“It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues.” (Abraham Lincoln. I might add that this goes doubly for people who think they have no vices.)

There are other quotes that I like–Winston Churchill has some of the funniest, Bertrand Russell some of the most reflective (it must be a British thing)–but I can’t recall any at the moment.

A big influence on my outlook is “The Last Lecture” by the LAte Randy Pausch. A lot of great quotes and idioms in there, if you have the time the link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo
