advice – post 201

What’s the best piece of advice someone has given you?

I remember when I was about 8 or 9 my Dad said to me “When you grow up and get a job make sure it’s one you like doing, because their is nothing worse then getting up and going to a job you hate.”  It’s advice I kept with me but didn’t really give much thought.  When high school was coming to an end and I needed to decide what I was going to do with my life I could see and understand more what my Dad meant.  My choice was now to go to college and learn the skills I need to be able to do what I want, or just do factory/blue collar work.  Something that didn’t interest me in the slightest.  I knew I what I wanted to do and I knew I had the talent to do it, so why would I settle for less.

I plan on telling my kids the same advice, but I have an addition.  Sometimes you have to take the crap job.  But that’s okay, because every crap job will make you realize your passion and the direction you want to be in.  They’re like stepping stones to a final destination.  Some stones are sharp and jagged and those are the ones you want to spend the least amount of time on.  Because why would you want to stand on something sharp forever?
