rock on – post 101
Every other Friday at work the whole studio get together and plays a game. It might be a video game… it might be a board game or trivia. Other then the planners of it no one knows until that day. The winner gets to pick a video game of their choice.
This past Friday we played Rock band.
Now my time with Guitar Hero equals about an hour at the most so I knew I was in trouble. I mean to pick it up but I just don’t have the time. So playing an interment would be rough… but singing would be scary… especially in front of your whole studio. Sure enough I was asked to do vocals and, because I knew I could read the lyrics better then I could play something in the game I agreed. Man… I could feel my heard pounding and I’m sure others could hear it.
We looked over the song list. I knew most of them, but not well enough to really know the lyrics. I figured if I’m going to sing I want to know the song well. We soon all agreed that Enter Sandman by Metallica would be a good selection. Sweet! I used to rock out to that in High School. Our turn came up and we got ready and did our thing. As I started I got less and less nervous. I mean, it’s understandable to be nervous but I work with these people, we’re not going to put each other down and then kick each other. It takes guts to get up and sing in front of everyone and I think everyone knew that. Besides, I gave conference to about 100 people at a game summit a few years ago so I shouldn’t have been nervous at all looking back now.
It went very well and I had lots of fun and people where commenting on my nice gravely voice as I sung my best Hetfield. We failed our song… drummers fault ^_^ but we all had a great time and that’s was counts.
I can see the draw to Rock Band after just that one time. If I had more friends to play with I would probably pick it up.
