Hachi Koi – Dead game walking

Where do games go when they die? No… I’m not talking about that NES copy of Wrecking Crew you’ve forgotten about, stashed away in the back of your closet. No, I’m talking about what happens to a game that gets canceled.

What got me thinking about this is a post I read on a Japanese dating sim for the DS. It was called Hachi Koi and was being developed by EA Japan. It featured seven characters to choose from (including a really cute, full figured character), and would allowed you to touch the girls in such ways like rubbing sun tan lotion on their back, tend to scrapes then might get and possibly a sort of sequence where you might cut one of the girls free from bondage. This in addition to asking and answering the right questions to try and win some of their affection.

Anyway, when I hear things like this I usually wonder… What caused this title to get the axe? How far along was it? What’s going to happen to the art that was done for the game? Maybe a ROM of the latest build will make it’s way on to the internet. ^_^

Maybe EA didn’t want to compete with Doki Doki Majo Plus (and it’s prequels) or Love Plus from Konami. Those are pretty heavy hitters in the love/date sim category as far as the DS is concerned. I mean… some guy married the virtual girl from Love Plus o_O. Maybe the game just wasn’t fun and rather then sink more money in to it, it’s better to just cut it loose.

It really does suck when this happens. Not that this would have made it out over in North America but I know I was looking forward to it. I wouldn’t be able to understand it, but the game does look really cute, and I’m a sucker for cute 2D girls (and naughty games ^_^). So yeah, with the game now canceled you might want to run to the site and snag up all the art from there (I know I will). I think what sucks most is the time that the programmers and artists have put in to the game. It’s all gone and, in most times, the work can’t be used in portfolios and such because the company still owns the art and code. Bummer. >_<

Well the game might be gone, but the art shall live on!  I now present… The Hachi Koi gallery!  Seems like they where really playing up the Kurumi character (full figured girl).  Very cool if you ask me.  Not many games have plus sized ladies as objects of desire.  The only thing I could find was an flash game featuring Kurumi on the games web site.  It was a tetris clone and when you cleared four lines… well, the noises she made where… um… very suggestive. ^_^

UPDATE: Kachi Koi lives!!
