Wow you got vista is it any good. Does it look good tell us.
Good points so far:
Windows Gadgets:
A little bar on the right side of the screen that can display things that you choose. Clock, slideshow, calculator, Ram/cpu usage ect....
Media Center:
This works best if you are on a network with your xbox 360 and if you have a TV adaptor for your computer, otherwise, might as well stick with Media Player. Anyone who has Windows XP Media edition may know what I'm talking about.
System Performance Rating:
This will tell you what programs slow down your system and how to fix the problems. (so far, it has yet to help me fix the problems, I've fixed most of them myself after it told me what the problems were.)
Preinstalled programs:
It has improvements to some programs that came with XP. Anyone who used the blue tooth on XP will like the vista version a little more. It has support for tablet PCs (which is clashing with my wacom drivers).
Screen Saver:
The screen savers are cool as hell. The lighting effects they have are nice.
Explorer with Tabs:
Anyone who has used Firefox will like the explorer tabs. Yet the "X"s to kill off the tabs are next to the tabs and not at the end of the bar (takes a little getting use to after using firefox for so long.
Deadly Firewall:
Nothing.... and I mean NOTHING can install itself on your computer without you knowing about it.... why? because you HAVE to approve of it before windows will let it happen. Thus Spyware is a thing of the past.
Bad points:
EATS RAM ALIVE!
I'm running 1 gig of ram and it eats half of it. This really annoys me to the point of wanting to buy a replacement for my XP disc. Photoshop runs sluggish and lowering my Res. just shrinks the screen and now expand it to fit the screen. I'm sure there is an option around that, I've just not found it yet. When I run PS, my RAM is under 70% usage. That is without one of my big pictures. I need to upgrade to 2 gigs but lack the money for that right now.
Hells' Firewall:
Sure, Spyware no more, but at what cost? It can annoy you everytime you go to install things or go to sites that have the stuff. I've read that you can turn it off, but I'd rather deal with it, if I can avoid spyware and other crap.
Beta problems, or Vista Problems?
Wacom Drivers:
Now My mouse moves like mud and my pen thinks I'm on a Tablet PC. I am down to my old mouse again. I await for thos drivers that may be ready by the end on Aug. This crap is killing me, but if Photoshop keeps running like crap, it may not matter. I hope Microsoft finds a way to knock down the resource usage, if not I'll either have to get that extra RAM ASAP, or another copy of XP.
Norton does not work:
I'm forced to use another virus protection program due to norton not working. Only one version of norton works and it is a server version. They force you the buy 10 or more copies of it and $500.00 is not worth it if I can use something cheaper until norton gets a real program for it.
Word Perfect 12:
It has minor problems, nothing major though.... so far....
Open office 2.0 seems to work great. Might as well stick to open office anyhow.
JPGs GIFs problems...:
BEFORE you upgrade to vista, BACK UP! BACK UP YOUR PICS! Some did not convert right. I lost a lot of jpegs due to it.... or at least I would have, had I not backed them up before hand. I wondered why they put a "Fix" option on the viewer. It does not even work most of the time.
PDA Sync:
I..... can't....... sync...... my...... Zodiac..............
DAMN YOU TAPWAVE! YOU HAD TO SHUT YOUR DOORS! No updates for me, I'm stuck with a PDA that will not link to my computer, with no hope of a driver fix. THANKS TAPWAVE! That is what you get for not knowing how to market your product right. My next PDA will be from a company I know will not be going anywhere any time soon.
------------------------------------------------
This being a Beta, I hope a lot of these get fixed. It is not the amount of problems that annoy me, it is the importance of them to me, and they are starting to override the good points. If anyone here wants Vista, You better have a damn good computer with at least 2 gigs of RAM and a good 3D graphics card with 256MB or better, I'd say go with 512 to be on the safe side.
There are other problems but none that I can recall as of right now. Guess they are not as much of a big deal to me.

awesome art, man, gotta love your gadget stuff!!!!!!
You have no idea how much that means to me, considering that I think my Gadget drawing skills need a lot of work. I just can't seem to draw her cute enough. I want to go for a cuter art style for her, but every time I try, my normal art style kicks in and takes over. *smacks own hand* "BAD HAND"
The more I see other artist get praise the less skilled I feel when I get little. Perhaps that is what I get for never taking any art classes and building my skill on my own. Ah well, it is my art style and I'm sticking to it. I'm happy with the few fans I get, at least my board is not flooded with comments and not art. It is hard to look at art when you have to scroll through lots of messages to find the art. I've seen a few threads where I have to go through 3 pages of chat to get to any art, sometimes no more art.
....
I'd still like more fans though.

This is a screen saver on Vista. I like this one a lot. It looks like laser lights a come on to the screen and the tails leave a fading trail. If the lights cross, they show a lighter mix of the colors that cross.Attached Files

Here is another pic I did not long ago. It started out as just a doodle, a friend of mine liked it so much that he wanted me to color it.... so I did just that. Thus, now I'm posting it.Attached Files
