Yes, it is. When a private message is submitted to someone, it goes to the sender's "outbox" until the person who is intended to receive the message logs onto the forum. The messages then is moved over to the sender's "sentbox" upon the recipient's receival in their "inbox." While the private message is still in the sender's "outbox," it can be either edited or deleted by the sender. Once the message is moved to the "sentbox," it means the person that message was sent to has received it when logging onto the forum. Therefore, the private message can no longer be edited or deleted...for it has gone through to the recipient.
In other words, you won't actually receive the private message in your "inbox" until you log into the forum if one has been sent to you, so long as that message hasn't been deleted by the sender when it's still in his/her "outbox."
