This is where I got my copy:
                http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?ID=288

I Googled "Freeware" and "gif animator" for that result. While backtracking for the original link, I also found:
                http://www.mrfreefree.com/free_softw...tor_tools.html

                and

                http://www.rocketdownload.com/details/inte/4282.htm

The same app is listed on both of the alternate links. Whether they're functioning downloads or not, I dunno. But the first one should still be good since I only hit it a couple of days ago.

(BTW, my avatar was a MiniDV-camcorder capture (ITT Tech School commercial "Locomotive Trip") from my cable box, ported to a laptop via the Image Mixer that came with the camcorder, then split apart with IrFanView into frames that were reassembled with Ulead's GIF animator that comes with PhotoImpact 6 (another UK coverdisk freebie--boy am I on a roll )

                • Wouldn't you know it?

I finally get something to download and my computer does seem to like it. It won't even let me install the thing.

Oh well I'll just try the next thing on the list.

What OS are you using and what is your computer saying? It dropped in without a hitch on my Win98SE laptop here.

                    • I run on XP, and when I try and install it, the pop up says it can't run MS-DOS programs, and then tells me to either cancel or ignore.

Cancel cancels, and Ignore does nothing.

                      • well... anyway, i made your avatar GIF 4X bigger... although theres no real reason to have a gif that big, it was still fun figuring out how to work microsoft GIF animator using it... so thanx Jive, now i got a GIF animator, AND i know how to work it, and its all cuz of yor thread, and whoever posted those links to DL the thing!

and also, i use XP PRO and had no prob installing it... maybe you DL'd a corrupt or broken version?

oy screw that... the site is just a bit to messy, i cant figure out where and how to download the program, after 5 minutes im just going around in circles
                              From The GIMP home page:

                              >> Downloads

Scroll down to Binaries, (the main site distributes The GIMP as source), Ill assume you want a Windows version.

                              >> GIMP for Windows

There is a linf for an installer right at the top.

                              >> Automated Installer

Which takes you to the Sourceforge page that has the installer for The GIMP and the library it needs to run.

                              >> Stable

Gets you to the most recent fully tested version.
