Hi, I'm somebody who used to hang around over at WWOEC forum. I'm totally retired from this line of business, and I do understand I have no right to be here. However, I just have to know. What happened to WWOEC? I googled it and I know its gone, but I can't find why or how it happened....

I'm truly sorry to be bother, can someone sum up the demise of WWOEC? I just found out abut it today, and it really breaks my heart.....

Well, as I posted in a thread on palcomix right after it happened...

Andreamedis here, same as there and everywhere else I go (except for youtube. Whoever that is using my name on there isn't me. Grr...). Anyway, I saw the whole thing. Cobra started a thread called "All Good Things..." and made his post with nothing but emotes. Confused all of us who saw it, and Nurse Katie assured us (truly believing this, mind you) that if the site were closing down as many of us were fearing, Cobra would be straightforward about it and not tell us through stupid emotes. She even went so far as to say that if she was wrong, we'd be free to hunt her down and shave her head or something. Needles to say, she was wrong, and I owe her a visit to her hospital to press the nurse call button and pretend to be asleep when she comes in. So anyway, Cobra finally told it to us straight out that wwoec was closing on the 25th, and that he was hoping to reopen it again on a cheaper server, but he didn't say when or even if it would happen. Not even a full day later, wwoec was gone, and here we are.

can someone sum up the demise of WWOEC? I just found out abut it today, and it really breaks my heart.....

Basically there wasn't enough money coming in anymore, especially with a big drop in Lusttoons membership. (A lot of the material was being reposted.) On top of that Cobra has had some serious health problems, so it probably wasn't worth the stress anymore. At first he only hinted at a shutdown while he was looking for less-expensive hosts that would take a porn site, but then on February 18 he posted: “Sorry about all this. We are closing the doors on the 25th.”

And an hour or so later everything went offline.

I guess he worried that people would start downloading everything and would get a surcharge for exceeding the bandwidth cap. But there could have been other factors.

Say, as I doesn't always have an internet connection and when I do, it's slow, I stored some of the old Simpsons (and more specifically Lisa) related stuff from wwoec.

Mostly Shaggy, GKG and Lennox's stuff but also some stuff from beefalo and FairyCosmo.

No, I won't post it here as it isn't mine, but if needed, these artists can PM me and I'll send it to them.

PS: I also get a Bad Getway alert despite my message being posted.
PPS: Also found some Killbot's stuff.

I can see why that is. That particular image is a PNG file with transparency. So it's seen as all black in the thumbnail.

Manuel is correct, it's a transparency issue with PNG and the thumbnails in JQuerey

Ah so that's why. I thought it was just lineart on white background. Makes sense now yeah. Same thing happens at uploads on paheal sometimes..

One more refugee here, and unfortunately I was out of the loop due to illness at the moment it happened. It's a real shame, because WWOEC was my home for a good many years, and I had a lot of stuff up there I still haven't reposted anywhere else. Luckily I managed my page on WWOEC and still have it fully backed up.

I for one can't wait. Btw Cheetah, the galleries are weird sometimes. Some posts end up as an empty black box and the real picture only shows up if you "click for full view".

TJA shows great promise and if the board gets updated soon, the chances are also greater. The galleries are already awesome And I like how organized it is plus a page where you can view recently added gallery works.

seh "the stuff" that is the real disgrace, they should make a backup of the database, like a torrent, that things was a artistic treasure an odd, eccentric corner of the web, but like all art, it was part of the human experience and should be archived

Said backup would have to be a miracle now.

So many things lost forever. So much art irrecoverable. From so many artists that haven't even posted/have retired years ago and never heard from again... So many stories, forgotten.

There's a small chance to recover from this if everyone cooperates in resharing their old works and rebuilding what everyone lost. But I heard most of you artists don't like sharing your old works because you think it's terrible.

Dunno why that is, majority of your fans don't mind and even like most of your old works. We see it as a progression to how you've improved over time. Kind of like examples of the evolution of your art. Plus it helps give us basis for future constructive criticism of which you are welcome to listen to or not of course. Dealers choice.

Admittedly I never backed up much of my favorite artists works aside from the ones on paheal, but that's because I never expected wwoec to burn down the way it suddenly did like that. I mean, that place has been up for years and whenever it went down it went back up again.

Majority of artists I discovered and met there weren't dicks either and would actually reply if you messaged them. Which was super cool.
