Country Christmas

This past weekend we visited my Dad and Step Mom for an early Christmas.  We all gather together at the century home in the country play games, have wonderful meals, talk and have a lot of fun.  It’s the kind of family gathering that I really enjoy because, I love the classic country Christmas setting.  My Dad’s house is filled with antiques so it really does feel like I stepped back to the past.  It’s fantastic!  I love that I’m able to have this since most people live in the city/suburbs.  We sit and talk, eat, play games and have a wonderful time.

I especially love (being of Dutch decent) all the dutch treats that get made.  Traditional goodies like Oliebollen, which is a doughnut with raisins and dusted with icing sugar.  Apple flappen, which is a deep-fried  apple ring dusted with icing sugar and my favorite, Krokets.  That is deep-fried stewed beef that is battered, spiced and delicious.

Do you have a favorite place to visit during the holidays or do you prefer to stay at home?

Christmas Songs

Let’s go for a third Christmas post!  This past weekend, while we put up our decorations, we listened to holiday appropriate songs.  I had forgotten how much I love the sound of the classic Christmas songs.  Songs like “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas” by Burl Ives, “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby, “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole, “Baby it’s Cold Outside” by Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting, and “Frosty the Snowman” by Jimmy Durante.  There’s just no better versions than these in my opinion.  Sure there are great versions being put out now, but I love the classic/original versions of these carols.  But my all time favorite Christmas song is Elvis’s Blue Christmas performed by Porky Pig.  It’s the first song I have to play every year.  And so… take it away Porky. ^_^

…and yes I realized it’s not Mel Blanc, but this guy does a fantastic Porky, I’m willing to over look it.

Christmas Gifts

Since we’re on the topic of Christmas.  What are you looking to get for Christmas or better yet do you have an awesome gift you’re looking to give to someone?  Because as fun as it is to get stuff, it’s fantastic to see peoples faces when they open things you’ve bought them.

Me?  I’m hoping that I get a Wii U.  I know it’s an expensive gift, so my heart isn’t set on it.  I’m pretty sure that will be an after the holidays purchase.  As for what I’ve bought… I have a very nice gift for my wife, but I won’t mention it on the off chance she visits my site.  It could happen and with my luck, a pretty good chance of it too. ^_^

Christmas Decorations

Christmas decorations went up in my house today.  Did they go up in yours or did you already have them up?  I know some people who put them up the day after Halloween.  No fool’n!  November 1st the scary stuff comes down and the tree goes up.  That’s a bit early for me.  We normally do them towards the end of November, so this is late for us.  This year we also thumbed our noses at LED lights.  They just don’t have the same look and feel as the old ones do.  So we went and bought some of those in stead.  Not sure what we’ll do with the LEDs.  Maybe put them out side or something.  We also have a fake tree.  I’m not particular on real ones.  My Dad got a real tree for years, but he’s since converted too fake as well.  We got our current tree about 6 years ago and spent a little extra for it because it looks like a real tree.  So much so that we’ve fooled more than a few people with it and that alone makes me happy. ^_^

Candy Cane Question

I guess it’s that time of year that I need to think about the candy cane picture I want to do this year.  I’m pretty sure I want to do a Random Squirrel one… or maybe a Ping and Pong one.  Not sure…. gonna have to think about it.  But I would like to do some fan art too.  Ever since I started to draw smutty things, my first love is drawing the fan arts.  I also love to hear suggestions from the crowd too.  So if you have any character suggestions for this years candy cane pic, shout them out for all to hear!

I guess I should also think about what kind of messy New Years pic I want to do.  I missed out on 2012 so I guess I should do one this year.  You know, start the year off right… and very messy.  Very, very messy if I had it my way.  Any thought on who is should be?
