How Many Games?

How big is your game collection?  I asked myself this the other day I as added one more to the list.  So I went down and counted what I have.  I was going to list them all by name, but that would take forever, so you get a number approximation.

NES – 35

SNES – 15

N64 – 9

GameCube – 14

Wii – 22

GameBoy – 20

GameBoy Advance – 15

DS – 28

3DS – 2

Dreamcast – 7

PlayStation 2 – 8

Neo Geo Pocket Color – 1

Total – 176

One or two might be missing here and there, but I’d say this is pretty close.  It’s interesting to see where I had more disposable money during console ownership.  Not all of those were bought new.  Some are second-hand.  I’d say about 1/4 of my NES games are used.  I also own all the original systems, plus some extras like a GameBoy Pocket, GameBoy Color and GBA SP.

I’m pretty happy with what I own.  I make pretty good decisions I think and only own a few lemons.  What’s the final tally on your game collection?

I used to have more, but due to moving circumstances over the past ten years, I don’t have anything further back than the Gamecube anymore (or most of my GBA games).

Plus any games on your phone?

Hmmm… I have some games on my iTouch and 3DS that are downloads. I never even considered them because I’m a snob and prefer tangible video games. ^_^ Well, I have about ten or so on my iTouch and around twenty four on my 3DS. Twenty of those are the free games from when I bought my 3DS early.

I only have a few games left. I don’t play console games much any more. I play those free online games from armorgames.com and violentflashgames.com. Back in my boyhood days I used to play Atari 2600 games (damn it feels weird typing that!) and then games on my Commodore 64 (that felt even weirder!) The last game system I had was a Playstation 2 where I played ‘GTA: San Andreas’ til my eyes popped out. Now I tend to play games I can finish in one sitting.

I’m gonna take a guess at about 40-50 or so, divided between PS (1, 2, and 3), Wii, Gamecube, DS, Xbox (not 360), and iDevice. Used to have some retro games, but gave them away due to lack of necessary consoles. That seemed like a lot to me, but seeing how many others have, I guess I have a rather small collection. Makes sense, I guess. I don’t buy all that many games new, and tend to use them to death. My time count on Dark Souls and Mass Effect 2 would shame me to say aloud–somewhere around 300-400 hours on DS alone.

I know this is almost two years old, but I feel like sharing. Don’t even know if anyone read it.

Also, I do maintain a list of all my games. Only way to make sure I don’t get a game I already have. Accidents do happen, though. Make the count 772, because I do have an extra copy of Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters for PS2 and an extra copy of Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon for PS2 as well.

Dang! That’s a crazy collection! I see you’re a PS2 and PS3 person. I got a PS2 late in the game and only really played Shadow of the Colossus on it. I should bring it out and give it a go again. Did you play all of those games or are there some that got passed over?

      • Myles Says:

I played all of them, but I have only beaten some. I have to be really invested in a game to play it all the way to the end.

      • Myles Says:

Also, I’m not necessarily a PS2/3 guy. It’s just they happen to be easier to get a hold of where I live. A store nearby has a large collection of PS2 games and is selling them dirt cheap just to get rid of them, but the corporate office keeps sending his store more. He also has a large collection of PS3 games, but he isn’t selling them as cheaply. I still pick one up every time I visit, though.

      • Myles Says:

I just went through my shed (just trying to clean it out of old junk) and found 40 long lost PC games. The last time I remembered playing these games were in the ’90s and I forgot about them at some point. I opened up a dusty box and started sorting through the contents and I see those old games. My first thought was, “Holy crap! I forgot all about these.”

Well, that puts my collection now to 813 games.

I can’t wait to play them, again, and see if my nostalgia still holds up. Other than an old train puzzle game on MS-DOS these were some of the first PC games I ever played.
