Ghosts

It’s Halloween!  Well, it might now be as I post this but by the time most read this it will be.  So let’s have one more spooky post.  Do you believe in ghosts?  Have you ever had a ghastly experience?  Laugh if you must, but I do believe in ghosts and spirits.  I have since I was a kid.  I remember reading lots of books about the paranormal in the school library.

Unfortunately, I have never seen or experienced a ghost.  I did have a strange moment about 9 years ago though.  We had to put down our beloved beagle Pheobe (Bernard’s Mum) only two to three days earlier.  I woke up in the night and listened to a dog get up off the dog pillow and walk out of the room.  Seconds later, the I could hear the noise of a sleeping dog still in the room.  Wife just happened to be awake too and I asked her if she heard a dog get up and leave the room.  She said that she did.  I then asked if Bernard was still on his pillow.  She leaned over and checked and confirmed that he was.  I then asked… so who left the room?  I’m sure others can say that I must have heard Bernard walk in to the room and lay down.  I can absolutely say that I 100% heard the paw steps of a dog exit the bedroom door that night.  I also never heard the sound enter the room again.

Do you have a ghost story to share?

One time I visited the Lemp Mansion in St Louis. It is infamous because four members of the Lemp family commited suicide in the house over a course of several years. Its now a restaurant and bed & breakfast. Its also reported to be haunted with many people saying they saw and heard ghosts.
When I was there, after dinner, I went upstairs into the attic area. It was dark and I used a small flashlight to look around. As I scanned the room, the beam fell on a coat hanging on a hook. In the dark it looked like a figure standing there. Scared the crap out of me. Fortunately that was the only thing I saw. No real ghosts that night. Still freaked me out though.

Hell, try growing up in the historic district of Philly and NOT see ghosts! 🙂 Our old digs at 527 Delancey were, back in the bad old days of the “Bloody 5th” Ward, both a polling place and the site of at least one murder. So, naturally, our basement playroom was haunted. 😀 Never saw the chap, but, every evening when we turned the lights off at the top of the stairs, we’d politely shout, “G’NIGHT, MISTER GHOST!”

I did catch a glimpse of a spook in Colonial era clothes at our next place, 600 Spruce. I think it mighta been the shade of actor Joseph Jefferson ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Jefferson ) in costume visiting the place where he was born…

never experienced anything with ghosts, but being scientific i have to say that they are possible. evidence pops up all the time and i never say that something simply doesnt exist. because, technically, in an infinite universe everything exists. but anyway, no, never seen a ghost, but yes i sort of believe in them.
