I’m back baby – post 272

This past weekend I helped my Mom move.  That part was easy.  The driving part sucked balls.  I put just under 2000 km on my van in 3 days.  One way trip was about 6 hours.  With the van and the trailer packed to the tits, it was about a 10 hour drive from there to the new place.  Then I had to drive home.  Well… me and my brother in law really.  He came to help me, and boy am I glad.  Just having someone to divide the driving time was a great asset.

I drove to his place on Friday (2hs) and slept over.  We left at 7:30 am and drove for about 7 hours.  Pack up the van.  Slept.  Got up and packed the trailer.  Headed out at 12:30 pm and got to our destination at 10:30 pm (10 hrs).  Slept over.  Drove back home which took another 3.5 hours.

Ugh… I don’t think I want to drive for a good long while now.

So what’s the most you’ve ever driven in one day or a short span of days.

2040 miles from home to school. 24 hours with an avg speed of 85 miles per hour, nonstop hell. Only had to stop for gas 5 times , and every once and a while for the bathroom.

Scratch that! map quest says the trip was 1800 miles, in one day, avg speed of 75. Trip was a while ago, but still the worst drive I’ve ever pulled.

I think my longest trip is from Kansas to Galveston, TX. It would have sucked had my van mates not been my friends. Google says it was 673 miles and about 11 hrs one way.

I had to help my brother move last year. It was only 15 mile to his new place but it was still a pain.

Houston to New Orleans, 30 minutes stop for lunch, stopped for fuel, checked into hotel (about 8 hours I think). Got up the next morning, did my job (transmitter repair) drove back to Houston… the next morning, the hotel I had stayed in was under 14 feet of water in a hurricane.
I had incentive to make that trip as quickly as possible. 🙂
Longest sudo-non-stop was back in the days of my youth, Houston to Phoenix Arizona with a 4 hour “nap” in the parking lot of the Davis Mountains National Observatory in Ft. Stockton Texas. (security sent me packing 🙂
