rib-tastic – post 161
What did you today?
Did you go to a Rib festival in a local city? I did ^_^ Yup, we packed up the family and traveled to London Ontario for RibFest 08. Now I’d never been to anything like this before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew there would be ribs… but beyond that it was all a mystery. We got there around noon or so and checked out the small midway they had going for the kids. It wasn’t bad, not as large as a fair but okay. The farther in you got though the more they had set up.
There where some tricked out cars and classic cars to gander at, places to buy shirts cowboy hats and other such tacky crap and then finally the rib booths.
Holy crap where they huge! Monster signs and displays that towered over the people all with long lists of awards to entice people to their booth. Most with huge pictures of pigs roasting ribs over a open flame… which is kind of disturbing really.
Along my walk to decide which ribs to get one of the cooks stopped me and gave me the 10 second sell on what they offered. I said sure, I’ll jump on that wagon.
Well, 40 some min in line later and I finally got my order, which was a special combo of ribs, chicken, pulled pork, potatoes and baked beans… it was called “Vegetarian’s Nightmare”. Meanwhile my wife and kids went to a shorter line and ordered other ribs and corn and had it eaten up all in the span of me waiting in line.
So how was it all? Well, I’m not a rib expert so I’m a poor judge really. I thought the ribs where good but not out of this world. The pulled pork I had was just awesome though. ^_^ All in all it was a fun time. We’ll go again next year and try someone different, it would cost you a small fortune to try everything there in one weekend… although I’m sure some did just that.
Have you ever been to a food based festival?
